The NEET PG 2025 exam is one of the most awaited milestones for medical graduates aiming to pursue postgraduate medical courses in India. Once the results are declared, the next crucial step is counselling, which determines your college and speciality. Let’s understand the tentative dates, procedure, and how you can prepare in advance.

Tentative Counselling Dates for NEET PG 2025

The NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3, 2025. Results are expected to be announced within 2–3 weeks after the exam. Following this timeline, the counselling process is likely to start in early September 2025.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will release the official counselling schedule on their website. Typically, the process is carried out in multiple rounds, with additional mop-up and stray vacancy rounds if seats remain vacant.

Step-by-Step Counselling Procedure

The NEET PG counselling process is conducted online and involves several key stages:

  1. Online Registration
    • Candidates need to register on the MCC portal using their NEET PG credentials.
    • Payment of the counselling fee is mandatory to proceed.
  2. Choice Filling and Locking
    • After registration, candidates must select their preferred colleges and courses from the available list.
    • Once choices are locked, they cannot be modified, so careful selection is crucial.
  3. Seat Allotment
    • MCC conducts the allotment process based on NEET PG rank, category, seat availability, and preferences filled by the candidate.
  4. Result Announcement
    • The seat allotment results for each round are published online.
  5. Reporting to the Allotted College
    • Candidates must report to the allotted institution within the given timeline with all necessary documents for verification.
  6. Subsequent Rounds
    • If a candidate is not allotted a seat in the first round or wishes to upgrade, they can participate in subsequent rounds.

Before the counselling starts, ensure you have:
